How to shop small for the holidays: a gift guide
This year, my holiday gifting strategy is simple: support local, support small. It’s both a form of economic resistance and a way to give gifts that feel personal, thoughtful, and unique.
I’ve rounded up a few of my favorite local makers and shops you can browse from your couch (mostly).
🏡 For the Nester or Homemaker
Handmade kitchenware from Pigeon Toe Ceramics. Crafted in Portland and available in a variety of colors. They even offer sliding-scale pricing, which makes shopping small even more of a no-brainer.
I recently picked up this butter dish for my steady supply of French butter.
🌿 For the Bougie Weed Connoisseur
The Flower Pot curates artist-made smoking pieces from all over the world.
This Italian-made Simone Binanni Pipe and Pot is a two-in-one gift that’s equal parts cute and clever.
👗 For the Sustainable Style Lover
Another Portland designed and crafted icon, Rosarium (formerly Reif Haus), creates made-to-order pieces from dead stock fabrics.
Their new garden-inspired collection is comprised of stunning investment pieces, but for a more approachable gesture, this rain bonnet is ridiculously charming.
💨 For the Botanically Inclined
We’d be remiss not to mention that our hemp spliffs and herbal smoking blends make excellent stocking stuffers and host gifts. Thoughtful, elevated, and perfectly portable.
🍽 For the Hard-to-Shop-For
You can never go wrong with a gift card to a locally owned restaurant.
With so many local spots offering free meals to families during the government shutdown, selecting a gift card from one of these establishments is a simple, meaningful way to give back.
