Happy New Year! Faith, inspiration, creativity, and taking action are big themes this month. Communication, idea generation, and lots of mental activity are taking place. Drink water! Rest when you need to. Replenishment is necessary for endurance. We have this influx of energy and inspiration as we begin the year with the moon in Leo. Reflect on how far you’ve come. What tools, ideas, narratives have helped you along the way? How can the way you engage in your work this month be transformative for yourself and those it serves? Use this month’s messages to help you set the tone for 2021; what energy to tap into, harness, and embody.

I used the Collective Tarot for this month’s reading. Unfortunately no longer in print, the deck was illustrated by a collective of QT/POC artists. The illustrations feature dis/abled, Black, brown, Indigenous, trans, and fat bodies as well as animal imagery. Some of the Major Arcana and court cards are different than those found in traditional decks. The cards will still have a similar energy to its traditional counterpart, though the illustration and interpretation are done so in a non-gendered and non-hierarchical way. The court cards occupy knowledge-based positions instead of power-based positions (ie. queen, page, king, etc.). The suits are also changed to be more relevant to items we are familiar with today: Keys (instead of Wands), Bottles (instead of Cups), Feathers (instead of swords), and Bones (instead of Pentacles).

For this month’s tarot forecast, I’m pulling one card for each element: Earth, Air, Water, and Fire. Read the element that corresponds to your sun sign, and rising sign if you feel called to. Below is the element that corresponds to your sun sign. To find out your natal chart information, CafeAstrology has a pretty comprehensive chart interpretation.
Fire: Aries, Leo, Sagitarrius
Earth: Capricorn, Virgo, Taurus
Air: Libra, Aquarius, Gemini,
Water: Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces
Each card interpretation also lists the numerological energy of the card and ways to channel the energy of the card. For cards that are double digits, you add to get a single digit. For example, card #13 has #4 vibrations (1+3=4).
Hold onto that which resonates. Share this with those who come to mind as you read this.

You’re being asked to get back into movement after a period of stagnation. Stretch, dance, move your body in a way that helps you reconnect to it. Stoke your fires with some outside help. How can your art/work/creations help give you hope? How can engaging in a creative process (new or existing) help you heal? The 10 of Feathers is here to let us know the worst is almost over. The first step to climbing out of a mental health hole is asking for help. The Artist of Keys asks you to engage in an artistic practice as a way to help you process, heal, and integrate some of the recent sh*t of life. Notice the movement illustrated on both cards. How can you transform past pain into something healing? (Even if it’s just for your eyes) What makes you feel warm, safe, and self-confident? Go get it. Create it. This month, finding new sources of inspiration will come easier. Safely spend time with those who reflect your light.

Share your stories! You have a tremendous ability to articulate yourself at this time. Telling tales of our shortcomings, trials & tribulations always brings new insights and reflections we may not have previously realized. If all we did was talk about our wins, we’d get bored and our ego would get in the way. Use your past knowledge to start any new projects or goals this year. Allow yourself to explore new passions, hobbies, &/or mediums. Find a dedicated notebook or journal to put your thoughts onto paper and write your ideas down! This will also provide a written record for you to track your journey and measure your progress. If you’re up for it, share your ideas and inspirations with trusted loved ones. Using them as a sounding board or reality buffer will help you ground yourself amidst the exciting flames of the Ace of Keys.. Take authorship of your knowledge and own this area of your life. Explore and learn about what inspires you.

This month, your relationship with spirit and family is activated. The 10 Bottles highlights fulfilling, joyous relationships. Tap into the joy, love, and stability your (chosen) family and community provide. Trust your instincts as you move through this month. What do they tell you about the people around you? With the appearance of the High Priestess, you’re being asked to balance how you spend your time. Collaborating and connecting is important, but the High Priestess also encourages you to connect with spirit and your ancestors. You will find fulfillment here as well. Some of y’all may be deepening your spiritual practice. Perhaps you’ll find that some folx are coming to you for spiritual guidance. You’re getting to know more intimately your history/past. How can the work you do lay the groundwork for those who come after us? How can it honor those who came before you? How can this spiritual time help you be in service to others?

January asks you to tune into what you know and feel. Y’all are being asked to have faith in your ability to be tender, loving, and vulnerable, but also have faith in those around you. Think of how life would be different if faith wasn’t involved. Open yourself up a little bit. Notice how the chest on both cards are emphasized? Do some heart opening exercises by asking yourself who/what can provide safety and warmth for you? If you’re still trying to figure this out, put a little bit more trust into those who’ve been showing up for you, supporting you, and cheering you on. It’s okay and important to still have boundaries as you feel this out! You’re also being encouraged to express how you feel. Trust in the outcome and whoever is on the receiving end. Your intuition has a lot to say, acknowledge it and move accordingly.
